If you were to list 10 of your family members, from the nicest to the meanest, would all the family agree with your hierarchy, or would some likely rank them differently?  __________ 
In my family there would be a lot of disagreement on the rankings.  The point is, a hierarchy can say as much about the viewpoints of the people doing the ranking as it says about reality.  The more "objective" the criteria, however, the more likely people are to agree.
