Work Experience


- Biology Professor:  Edison Community College, Charlotte Campus, 1997-present.  Bill taught from 95-97 as a part-time adjunct.

Real Estate:  Self employed in the real estate, development and construction industry from 1985 to present.  Projects have included a variety of residential, golf course and commercial developments as well as environmentally endangered lands projects comprising over 5,000 acres transferred to the State under Preservation 2000 legislation.  The most recent project involved the design, permitting and sale of a mitigation bank for wetland and coastal scrub habitat.

Bank Director:  SunTrust Bank, Gulf Coast.  Member of the Board of Directors and Trust Committee, 1984 to 1998.  The Bank, with assets of over $1.7 billion, has served many area employers including hospitals, governments, and businesses as they have grown and prospered over the last 20 years in Charlotte, Sarasota, and Manatee Counties. 

General Development Corporation, 1979 -1985.  General Manager for operations in Charlotte, Sarasota, and Desoto Counties, with 500 employees and $30 to $60 million in annual sales. 

Laboratory Director:  Environmental Quality Laboratory, Inc., 1974 -1979.  Founder and Director of a consulting firm located in Port Charlotte and working throughout south Florida.  The laboratory grew rapidly to a state of the art analytical chemistry facility with a staff of 25 including 4 Ph.D. scientists.  The lab conducted contract research for agencies such as NOAA, EPA, and the Department of the Army and provided services to land developers, utility companies, and local and State governments.  The Laboratory opened in 1974  as a subsidiary of General Development Corporation.

- Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge Tennessee.  Research 
Associate conducting research into the fate or radioisotopes in the environment under grants from a variety of federal agencies; biological indicators of environmental quality for the National Science Foundation; and writing environmental impact statements on nuclear power facilities for the Atomic Energy Commission.  Bill worked on the team that wrote the first impact statement prepared under the National Environmental Policy Act or NEPA.

- Visiting Lecturer in Biology:  Averett College, Danville, VA 1970-72.

- Graduate Teaching Assistant: Memphis State University, 1968-70.
